HPW Metallwerk welcomes Austrian Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer to its headquarters: Measures package for a strong industry

  • Hattmannsdorfer learned about the innovative strength and key role of HPW Metallwerk (HPW) during his visit to the Linz plant.
  • HPW continuously invests in modern, energy-efficient production facilities, thereby sending a clear signal for climate protection and competitiveness
  • Dr. Koppensteiner: “High energy costs require fair framework conditions for major consumers.”

Linz, 9 September 2025 – Austrian Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer visited HPW Metallwerk GmbH in Linz last Friday. During his meeting with HPW CEO Dr. Ewald Koppensteiner, the minister was briefed on the company’s innovative capabilities as well as the current challenges facing domestic industry.

On a guided tour through the plant, Hattmannsdorfer gained insights into the production of high-technology performance wires, which are used, among other applications, in modern electric motors. Thanks to their high efficiency, resilience, and durability, HPW’s specialty wires enable higher performance levels and fast charging – including in the future-oriented market of electric trucks. HPW is thus one of the hidden champions of the Austrian supplier industry and an important partner for European vehicle manufacturers.

In addition to technological innovations, the discussion focused on high energy costs and the government’s planned relief measures.

“Industry is the foundation of our prosperity. Especially now, strong measures are needed. That’s why we are providing €150 million for 2025/26. With the industrial electricity bonus, we are specifically relieving those companies that are under particular pressure from rising energy prices. At the same time, we are promoting energy efficiency, as applicants must commit to corresponding investment measures,” emphasized Hattmannsdorfer.

A central instrument in this regard is the Electricity Price Compensation Act (SAG) 2025/26, which provides medium-term relief for energy-intensive companies with an annual consumption of at least 1 GWh. At the same time, funding is linked to investments in energy efficiency measures.
Hattmannsdorfer added:

“The creeping deindustrialization must be stopped. Our primary task is to strengthen competitiveness and industry in Austria. Only in this way can we secure jobs, prosperity, and our social system. With the largest electricity market reform and the industry bonus, we are taking further decisive steps to make industry fit for the future.”

Dr. Ewald Koppensteiner was pleased with the minister’s visit:

“We are delighted that we were able to give Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer a first-hand impression of our production. Made in Austria is a quality standard valued by our customers. However, high energy costs are a massive disadvantage in the energy-intensive metal industry, one that we cannot offset with innovation and automation alone. To remain competitive, we need improved framework conditions. The planned relief measures are a strong signal and support companies like ours in remaining internationally competitive while continuing to invest in modern, sustainable technologies.”

Minister Hattmannsdorfer had an open ear for the concerns of HPW and Austrian industry as a whole. Relief on the critical issue of energy costs would provide immediate, targeted support.
