/ Key word(s): Disposal/Strategic Company Decision
ABO Energy sells Greek subsidiary (Wiesbaden, July 2, 2025) ABO Energy is selling its subsidiary ABO Energy Hellas S.A., including its employees and a portfolio of solar, battery, and wind projects totaling around 1.5 gigawatts to HELLENiQ ENERGY Holdings. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price and transaction structure. The sale will not have a significant impact on earnings for fiscal year 2025. If projects from the 1.5 gigawatt pipeline achieve certain milestones, additional consideration will become due. “The sale of the Greek subsidiary improves our chances of success, reduces complexity of the ABO Energy group, and helps to further focus our business,” says Managing Director Dr. Karsten Schlageter. He considers the transaction a great success for all parties involved. “We have had good years in Greece and are indebted to our dedicated colleagues and the authorities,” says Dr. Schlageter. Between 2019 and 2023, ABO Energy developed and sold five solar parks in Greece with a total capacity of more than 100 megawatts. The company has connected four of these projects to the grid on a turnkey basis. Activities in Greece contributed substantially to consolidated revenue, particularly in the 2020 (15%) and 2023 (9%) fiscal years. As a service provider, ABO Energy will remain active in Greece and continue to provide commercial and technical management for the solar parks already built. “The withdrawal from project development in Greece is in line with our strategy,” says Dr. Schlageter. Currently, it is more interesting for ABO Energy to deploy resources in Germany, for example. Nevertheless, Greece also remains an attractive market for renewable energies. “One of our traditional strengths is opening up new markets,” says Dr. Schlageter. “The sale of our Greek business shows that we can also successfully exit commitments when it makes sense to do so.” The buyer of ABO Energy Hellas S.A. is HELLENiQ ENERGY Holdings, a leading integrated energy Group in Southeastern Europe. Founded in 1998 as Hellenic Petroleum, the company today operates across seven countries, actively driving transformation across all markets and the entire energy value chain. Its current RES portfolio features a development pipeline of more than 6 gigawatts, accelerating progress toward the Group’s strategic target of at least 2 gigawatts of installed capacity by 2030.
